India is the fifth largest cement manufacturer in the world, accounting for about four percent of world production. It is well endowed with raw materials such as lime, gypsum and coal for the industry.
The industry is well spread over a large number of big and small cement manufacturers all over the country, although cement units are concentrated more in the western and southern regions where limestone deposits are located.
