The electrical machinery industry accounts for about six percent of the total output in the industrial sector. Its share in the value added is higher at 12 percent. The industry grew at an impressive rate of 15.6 percent in real terms in the decade of the eighties.
The public sector giant, Bharat Heavy Electricals, is the largest company in the field of electrical machinery. Several international giants are also major producers in this industry. These include Siemens, ABB, GEC-Alsthom, etc.
