Access in Mumbai

Air: Mumbai is a major international gateway to India with international flights from most countries of the world. Air India and many other international air carriers operate regular flights to and via Mumbai. On the domestic sectors Indian Airlines and Vayudoot connect Mumbai with most tourist destinations of India. In addition, some private airlines namely East West, Jetair, Damania, Rajair, Sahara and Modiluft also provide air-link to many important centers of the country. Air India also operates some flights on the domestic sectors. The Mumbai Airport has two wings: The Sahar International Terminal at Sahar, Andheri and the Domestic Terminal at Santacruz.

Airport Coach Enquiries: Ex-servicemen's Airport City transfer coaches - Tel: 6123135 are available every hour except at 0000 hours and 0100 hours from both the airports to Air India building in the city (downtown) (journey time - approximately one hour). Also coaches are available between international airport and the domestic airport every half-an-hour (journey time - approximately 20 minutes).

Taxis: Metered taxis and tourist taxis are also available at both the airports.

Rail: Mumbai, one of the most important centers on the Indian Railways network and is connected by Western and Central Railways to all parts of the country. There are four major railway stations in the city: Victoria Terminus, Mumbai Central, Dadar and Churchgate. Computerized reservation facilities are available at the Mumbai Central, Dadar and Churchgate Railway stations.

Road: Mumbai is an important junction on the National Highway Network of the country. National Highways Nos. 3, 4, 6, 8, 9 and 17 radiate from the city providing links to all parts of the country. Road distances to some important centers in the region are: Aurangabad 392 km, Pune 163 km, Lonavala 104 km and Panaji (Goa) 97 km.

Bus Services: Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation and Road Transport Corporations of the neighboring states operate regular services with ordinary and deluxe buses to all important tourist centers in the region. The main bus terminus is at Mumbai Central, State Transport Depot.


Mumbai's internal transport system is varied and includes taxis, auto-rickshaws, buses and local trains. Auto-rickshaws are available only beyond Sion on the Central line and Bandra on the Western line. Metered yellow top taxis are available all over Mumbai. An efficient bus service covering all areas of the city is operated by BEST. Also local trains provide excellent connections between all parts of the city.


Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation and India Tourism Development Corporation operate city sightseeing tours as well as conducted tours to the places of interest around Mumbai.
