Swami Chinmayananda was an authority on the interpreation of the scriptures
of India, especially the Bhagavad Gita and the Upanishads.
He worked relentlessly for over forty years to bring a spiritual
revival in India and abroad. He brought about an appreciation of Indian
heritage, proclaiming man's identity with the Supreme, in the language of
the educated youth who then were enamored of the English culture.
Swami Chinmayananda wrote translations and commentaries of over thirty books, explaining the Upanishads and other vedantic texts in the modern context not only for the introductory reader, but for serious students of Vedanta. Self-Unfoldment and Meditation and Life are noteworthy books.
"[His] approach has the kind of depth we need. [His] books and [his]
lectures help fill an important gap in the education and lives of many people."
- Professor Gerald E. Schneider, Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
