South Asia Books has been the premier distributor of books from India for 27 years. Its Proprietor, Prof. N.G. Barrier, is the author of ten volumes on India and teaches Indian civilization and history at the University of Missouri. In 1994, he was the first awardee of a special honor from the Indian government and the National Book Trust, celebrating over 25 years of service facilitating the exchange of books and ideas between America and India. At present, South Asia Books has four full-time employees, a 6,000 square foot warehouse, and an inventory of over 5,000 new titles in almost every area. Special lists are available in the following areas: science, social science, art/art history, music, texts, astrology, cookbooks, history, environmental sciences, and other areas. We also are in the process of developing regional lists (for example, on Bengal, South India, Sri Lanka, Nepal). Other major catalogues available include a new illustrated Indology catalogue (Motilal Publications) and a new Buddhist/Tibet catalogue. South Asia Books handles and has exclusive distribution for over 30 excellent Indian publishers. We also regularly special order and have in stock a range of language materials and dictionaries.
We specialize in working with groups, institutions and libraries for building collections at reasonable prices. our goal is to bring Indian books to our customers within 20-30% above the Indian Rs. price. When our discounts are taken into consideration, for example, a Rs. 300 title can be purchased from us in the neighborhood of $14.00 plus shipping (books special ordered or airfreighted in would be higher to cover additional cost). Except for specially designated lists of sale items (usually in $3-6 range), we offer discounts between 30% and 50% on our new titles.
South Asia Books also specializes in selecting and bringing quickly into the market the very best titles from India. We generally have stock in this country within 3 months after release of good books in India.
The attached list is only representative of the thousands of titles on our shelves. If you wish to order, we can send a proforma invoice for the first order and then set up regular credit, or we do take VISA and MasterCard. If you prepay by check, please add $2.00 for the 1st volume and $1.25 for subsequent volumes up to $10.00 to cover shipping (US); and $2.50 plus $1.50 for additional volumes (foreign).
We look forward to having you in our network of over 3,000 satisfied customers.
