Some Common Beauty Problems
by: Shahnaz Husain
- Freckles:
- The skin has its own protective mechanism against sunlight.
When it is exposed to the rays of the sun, the pigment in the
skin increases in order to protect the inner layer of the skin.
Repeated exposure to the sun especially for long duration, causes
the skin to tan. In fair skins, there is an accumulation of pigment
in the lower layers, which gets gradually destroyed, as it is
transferred to the upper layers. When there is excessive exposure,
fair skins acquire freckles, which are accumulation of pigments,
with areas that have little or no pigment. Freckles are tiny dark
spots sprinkled on the face. They appear on areas that are more
elevated- like the nose, cheekbones, and forehead.
If your skin has the tendency to freckle, you should avoid excessive
exposure to the sun. You should always protect your skin, whenever
exposure to the sun is inevitable, by using a "sunscreen."
Freckles can be lightened by the use of special skin care products.
Lemon and turmeric are two natural products that lighten skin
color. A freckled skin would also need intensive moisturizing
with the help of cleansers, creams and masks containing extracts
of aloe, cactus, seaweed. Anti-freckle lotions and ointments would
also help.
- Whiteheads:
- Like blackheads, these are caused by the accumulation of hardened
sebum or oil, in the pores of the skin. The difference is that
in areas where the skin is fine and delicate, the clogged grease
is not exposed to the air. Oxidization does not take place and
darkens the tips, as in the case of blackheads. The whiteheads
appear in the form of tiny, pearly, white raised sports. They
are common to the area just above the cheekbones, where the skin
is fine. On oily skins, they may appear as part of a "problem
skin condition," with blackheads, pimples and acne.
Deep pore cleansing with beauty grains helps to discourage them.
The mixture of beauty grains and skin tonic is rubbed gently on
the affected areas, before being rinsed off with water. The gentle
dermabrasive action discourages their formation and also helps
to dislodge them after a period of time.
Whiteheads should never be removed forcibly, even with blackhead
extractor. In the case of whiteheads, or milia, as they are called,
the pore is not open. Forcible removal will, only damage skin
tissue. Take large amounts of fresh fruits and vegetables in your
daily diet. Drink plenty of water and fresh fruit juices. A glass
of warm water with the juice of lemon, helps to cleanse the body
of toxic residues and improves the elimination of wastes.
- Dark Under-Eye Circles:
- This is a common problem, which is caused by lack of sleep,
fatigue, stress, dietary deficiency or disease. It is generally
easy to spot people with chronic insomnia by the telltale circles
around the eyes. Sleep is very essential both to health and beauty.
If insomnia is your problem, or you suffer from chronic fatigue,
you must consult your doctor. With medical help, you should follow
a daily beauty routine. Remember that the skin around the eyes
is very delicate. Choose your cosmetic products with care. Every
night, cleanse the skin around the eyes.
