The get-together of like-minded youngsters are usually held on or around weekends and it's during the course of these meeting we desi's keep abreast about the latest happenings in our community. Al the scandals, gossip and rumors are reconfirmed here, the idea is to appear westernized even if you might have lived a better part of your life at Jhumri Talayaa, a remote village in India.
Many of my good friends back in India often ask "What is it that you guys do there in your spare hours?" Well, amongst other things we exercise our jaw muscles a lot and the agenda usually focuses on three primary features which all of us have in common: Politics, women and immigration though not necessarily in that order.
Politics revolves not around Clinton or Narasimha Rao but around our various relatives, uncles, aunties, cousins, so on and so forth. Indian family polices, as we all very well know, is more complex than the Arab-Israeli situation and requires to be handled delicately. Women are the next best area of discussion. For desi guys sipping beer while overlooking a spectacular ocean view, stories just do not seem to end. Believe it or not, it's much more interesting to talk about desi girls than about the local women. There is one recurring grouse "Indian girls in America prefer American chaps." What rubbish! The Indian girls here still have soft corner for desi boys provided they be a little more flexible in their ways.
Immigration is what everyone here is more or less familiar with and is also an interesting topic to discuss. According to some, America should stop all possible immigration with only exception being their near dear ones.
