Exhibition on Contemporary Art in India opens in Athens

India's Ambassador to Greece, Gurdip Singh Bedi, and deputy mayor of Athens, Elly Evangelidou, inaugurated an exhibition on contemporary Indian art entitled "External to Internal - The Other Reality,'' in Athens Wednesday night. The Exhibition is organized by the National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA) , Delhi, in cooperation with the Municipal Gallery of Athens.

NGMA Director Anjali Sen, speaking at the opening ceremony said the month-long exhibition will exhibit forty Tantra paintings of ten eminent Indian artists.

"Through this exhibition we hope to showcase the spiritual character of both ancient and Indian contemporary culture... Our aim is to show and project the best that we have to offer and thereby stimulate a dialogue on the meaning and importance of art of mankind,'' she said.

Nelli Kyriazi , curator at the Municipal Gallery of Athens, said the Indian exhibition in Athens is in response to the Greek Exhibition on Contemporary Art held in Delhi last year in April. She said the Greek Exhibition in Delhi left a good impression on the Indian Artists and public.

"It is the same impression we have here in Greece looking at the paintings that are based on New Tantra philosophy and this is very interesting for the Greek people because they are not accustomed to see such kinds of paintings,'' she told India Abroad. end
