Aga Khan Development Network Launches Web Site

Geneva, Switzerland: June 28, 2000 -- The new Web site, located at , was created to respond to the interest in the work of the various development organisations created since 1967 by His Highness the Aga Khan. It is the only authorised source of accurate and up-to-date news on the Aga Khan's development work on the World Wide Web.

AKDN.ORG http://www.akdn.org/index.html?ap provides information on the Aga Khan Foundation, the Aga Khan University, the Aga Khan Fund for Economic Development, the Aga Khan Health Services, the Aga Khan Education Services, the Aga Khan Planning and Building Services and the Aga Khan Trust for Culture. It covers activities in Central and South Asia, in various parts of Africa, and in Europe and North America.

In addition to current and detailed news and information, AKDN.ORG contains sections on the Aga Khan himself, the Ismaili Imamat (the office of spiritual leadership), and on the Shia Ismaili Community that he leads. The grounding for the inspiration and work of these development agencies in the ethics of Islam is examined as well. The Web site provides a variety of topical sections highlighting new or particularly unusual projects, press releases, and copies of speeches presented by the Aga Khan in various international settings.

The Aga Khan Development Network is non-denominational and is dedicated to improving the well-being and prospects of people in some of the poorest regions of the world, irrespective of their gender, ethnicity, race or religion.
