AMA Urges Doctors for More Involvement

Chicago, April 22 - Dr. Thomas R Reardon, Vice Chairman, Board of Trustee, American Medical Association (AMA) and key note speaker at the IMA semi annual dinner on April 20, 1996 at the Hyatt Regency, Oak Brook, Illinois urged in his address "we need you-- please get involved". This was the main thrust of the speech, which was repeatedly suggested during his remarks to the doctors and guests present at the dinner.

Dr. Reardon reflected on the many changes in the health care industry and the managed care options. He emphasized that it is as important for the doctors to stay abreast of these changes as it is to stay up to date with the knowledge of medicine.

Dr. Marella L Hanumandass, president of the Indian Medical Association (IL) informed 250 members and guests at the dinner that in sixteen years, IMA stand proud for being strong and effective organization gaining recognition and respect of organized medicine and other professional societies.

Activities of 1996 that Dr. Hanumandass reported were the innovative IMA retreat leadership seminar, participation in the Midwest Clinical Conference of Chicago Medical Society, community awareness seminars.

Dr. Hanumandass also informed that CME session were being attended to capacity and now residents and medical students were also organizing CME session for themselves. He appealed to the Indian Medical community at large to become members of IMA and avail the opportunity to network with fellow physicians and become a united voice.

Awards were presented to recognize the services of past president Dr. Prem Rupani and past-secretary Dr. Sunita Ginde.

The dinner was followed by networking, dance and music. Dr. Rajeev Khanna was the Master of ceremonies. Urmilla Chawla, Auxiliary Chairperson, in her vote of thanks acknowledged the committee's work and team sprit of the executive board of IMA.
