At the inaugural session of the conference, Mrs. Lean Levetan, the Dekalb County Commissioner welcomed the Prime Minister and his delegation from Trinidad, the scholars and the local community members. She said the country was privileged to have such an international conference in Atlanta, Georgia. Later, the chief guest, Shri Basdeo Pande, Prime Minister of Trinidad & Tobago, was introduced by one of the conference conveners and well known Vedic Scholar Dr. Bhu Dev Sharma. Shri Pande, who came with an official delegation along with his wife Uma, spoke for about one hour and won the admiration of the scholars and participants through his eloquent speech and deep understanding of the ancient Indian Civilization. He explained how ancient India excelled in such fields as high technology, agriculture, physics, astronomy and medicine.

The following resolutions were animously passed and adopted by the conference at its concluding session:

  1. Recent archeological discoveries have fully established that there was a continuous evolution of civilization on the Indian subcontinent from about 5000 B.C. which remained uninterrupted through 1000 B.C. This leaves no scope whatsoever to support an Aryan invasion theory.
  2. The term Arya in Indian literature has no racial or linguistic connotations. The word meant "noble" in its usage.
  3. We urge that a biannual conference on ancient India be held in the United States and other countries.
