WASHINGTON, DC; Oct. 26 - Yusuf Jameel, a correspondent with the ‘Asian Age’ has been selected by the "Committee to Protect Journalists"(CPJ) forum for this year’s CPJ International Press Freedom Awards.
Jameel, a former BBC correspondent and a stringer for Reuters and Time Magazine, has been selected for the award in recognition of his coverage of the activities in Kashmir.
The CPJ has also selected Jesus Blancornelas, who committed himself to press freedom in Mexico, Daoud Kuttab, who covered the Israel-Palestinian conflict, and Ocak Isik Yurtcu, a former editor-in-chief of a now defunct Turkish daily ‘Ozgur Gandem.’
The CPJ also announced a special award to Arthur Ochs Sulzberger, publisher of the ‘New York Times’, for his landmark decision 25 years ago to publish Pentagon Papers, heralding a new standard for press freedom in the United States.
