Andra Pradesh Cyclone Relief Activities
In 1977, Andra Cyclone Relief activities are carried out by Jana
Sankshema Samiti , one of our seva organizations. This year, again the
Jana Sankshema Samiti is playing an active role in the relief activities
in the worst hit areas of Andra Pradesh. Here is the report.
- Jana Sankshema Samithi volunteers are among the first to reach
the cyclone effected areas including Amalapuram, Ravulapalem,
Kakinada, Kankarru
- Temporary shelters were provided at various places. Food and
medicine were distributed to more than 20,000 families
in 55 villages.
- More than 1 Crore rupees will be spent on relief activities in
Cuddapah, East and West Godavari districts.
- More than 29000 coconut plants were distributed for coconut farmers.
- For 410 acress, Rice paddy was supplied
- Farm Urea, Manure were distributed for farmers.
- In Cheyyeru, weaving sets were distributed for the weaving community.
- More than 21,000 note books and text books are distributed to the
school going children.
- Hundreds of fishing nets were distributed to the fishermen.
- The above activities are held in Patnamvalli, Rajupalem, Nadava
valli, Gangulakurthi agraharam, and Kanakalapeta
- Two villages are selected for the total reconstruction and
for 75 houses in Kanakalapeta, Yanam the Sankhusthpana (inaugaration
cermony) is done.
- Out of the total houses constructed, 50 houses belong to Harijans
and more than 100 to OBCs.
- A total of 150 houses will be constructed in the first phase
and another 175 houses willbe taken up in the next phase.
- Total Construction costs are reduced by involving the villagers
in construction. That gives a feeling to the family that they
have build their house.
- Each house costs 60,000 rupees. If any donar gives 35,000 or more
that house will be named after the donar.
- In the rain effected Cuddpah district, a total of 12 villages were
adopted by Jana samskhema samithi. 3 villages in Atluru region of
Badvel taluka will be reconstructed.

Work done by Jana Sankshema Samiti during the November 1977 flood
Place: Anakapalli.
Flood waters from the sharada river inundate this town on
November 19, 1977. Volunteers from Jana Sankshema Samiti reach
the town with food, clothing and temporary shelters. 150 make-shift
homes were erected. After the floods receded, volunteers built
residential colonies in record time.
Place: Moolpalam village ( part of Divi Seema ).
As per government records, 73 villages were uprooted, almost
10,000 lives were lost and 500,000 cattle killed. The first
rescue party to reach the site was from Jana Sankshema Samiti.
The food, clothing and medical needs of the people who survived
the cyclone was taken care of by sangh volunteers. A residential
colony, Deendayal Puram was constructed. In 96 days, a record number
of 96 houses were built and the flood victims were
rehabilitated. A nursery school, a temple, were opened. In
Guntur district, a residential colony with 56 houses, 52
houses in Krishna district, primary schools and cyclone
shelters were constructed.
