Before a child can go to kindergarten he/she has to be ready for it.
Here´s a general list of basic things that is expected of the child going to kindergarten:

EMOTIONALLY: The child should be able to separate successfully from parents once he is comfortable at school and be able to control emotions and impulses. The child should like himself and feel proud of his accomplishments and be able to accept minor disappointments without tears.

SOCIALLY: The child should be able to function in a group by following rules and taking turns, He should be able to respect the property of others, share and ask for help if needed. The child can take care of his belongings, can wait for short periods of time and play cooperatively with other children.

INTELLECTUALLY: They can make decisions and solve problems in simple ways. They can speak clearly enough to be understood and able to understand and follow two-part directions like ´finish your milk and put your glass in the sink´. They can discriminate amongst shapes, sizes, colors and sounds and show curiosity. They enjoy being read to, remember parts of favorite stories and retell accurately.

Kindergartens are focused more on developmental curriculums than on academics.
By the end of the kindergarten school year, the child can read simple books, do one digit arithmetics, make simple science projects, cut in straight and circular lines, able to speak confidently in front of the whole class etc. However if the child is not socially, emotionally or physically ready, no matter how bright he is academically, the child may not be recommended to grade 1.

The elementary school is from kindergarten to grade six.

Kindergarten hours are usually from 8.30 a.m. - 12.00 p.m. and 8.30 a.m. - 3.00 p.m. for grade 1 and above.

The grades in the Report card for kindergarten till grade 3 are :
"O" - Outstanding
"S" - Satisfactory
"U" - Unsatisfactory

They start having quiz time for different subjects.

From grades 4 through 6, children get letter grades in their Report cards:
"A", "B", "C", "D" and "F". These grades are based on regular home work assignments, quizzes, tests (one on each chapter), essays and pop quiz (surprise quiz). There are no mid-term or final examinations.

There is one classroom and a teacher for all the subjects.
The basic curriculum followed is set by the school district.
