"Memories of a Son"

by: Sandy Solari (sosandy@hom.net)

My memories of you as a lad, a finer son was never had, then Uncle Sam adopted you, and to a foreign land you flew. I wrote you letters every day, and to my God I would pray, but something deep inside of me, said you'd soon be in God's company. The final letter received from you, expressed how much you really grew, I saw the love you held inside, as a lad you tried to hide. I read your letter every day, and understand what you've tried to say, but I never knew you as a man, so this is hard to understand. "Mom everything is going swell, and only time will really tell how everything is going here, but Mom I wish that you were near." "I would tell you Mom I'm alright, but Mom I'm a ragged sight, wish you were here to comfort me, I fear I'll soon be in God's company." So off with flowers in my hand, across our Nation's mighty land, I go to commemorate you my son, for a job so well done. Down my cheek rolls a tear, but son, know that I'm now near, I still have memories of the past, I hope throughout my lifetime last. I place the roses at your feet, for my boy someday we'll meet, Once again my son and me, when I'm in God's company.
