DAL CHA

Dal Cha is a fusion of north Indian cuisine and south Indian flavour where the dal is cooked with spices and generally had with steamed basmati chawal and egg fry.

Ingredients:

  • Channa Dal   -   3/4 cup
  • Onions(large)   -   1
  • Tomatoes(medium)   -   2
  • Grated coconut   -   3 tblsp
  • Cloves   -   4
  • Cinnamon   -   3
  • Coriander leaves   -   a small bunch
  • Garlic   -   2 pods
  • Ginger garlic paste   -   2 tsps
  • Oil   -   2tblsps
  • Red chilli powder   -   2tsp
  • Dhania powder   -   1tsp
  • Salt   -   acc to taste
  • Turmeric powder   -   1/2 tsp
  • Tamarind   -   size of a small lemon
  • Method:

    Boil the dal with turmeric powder and half teaspoon of oil. Mash it when done. Soak the tamarind and take the pulp and mix it with the dal. Allow it to boil. Separately, grind ginger-garlic paste with grated coconut, 2 cloves and 1 cinnamon and a few coriander leaves to a fine consistency. Chop onions and garlic length-wise and cut tomatoes finely. Heat oil in a vessel and add clove and cinnamon followed by chopped garlic and onions. Fry it till golden brown, then add the tomatoes, cook until oil comes out. Then add the ground paste, fry well, add chilly powder, salt and add this mixture to the boiling dal. Allow to cook in simmer for 10-15 minutes until the flavours have mixed. Finally, add chopped coriander leaves and serve hot with steamed rice and egg fry.
