New Delhi: Penguin Books India in partnership with its US-based sister firm Author Solutions Inc Thursday introduced its self-publishing platform in India, opening up opportunities for aspiring writers who don't have enough means to get their books published.
The new platform, called Partridge, will provide an opportunity to writers to get their books published in a cheap and convenient manner, Andrew Phillips, president and chief executive officer of Penguin Books India said.

"I hope the new platform will substantially increase the number of authors in India," he said.

Phillips said through the new platform authors would get access to a wide range of professional services, including editing, designing, illustration, print formatting, publicity and marketing and distribution through online channels.

The book can be published both in print and digital format.

Penguin will provide the new service in association with Bloomington, Indiana-based Author Solutions Inc, which is the world's leading firm in self-publishing business.

Penguin Group's parent firm Britain's Pearson had acquired Author Solutions Inc in a $116 million deal in July last year. The firm has so far helped more than 170,000 authors publish more than 200,000 books around the world.

"Since Author Solutions joined the Penguin family, we have been focused on their international expansion and India is an obvious starting point, given the active and enthusiastic writing community," Phillips said.
