Rama and Sita were two children who lost their mother. Their father married again. The stepmother who came was a very evil woman who knew magic. She ill-treated Rama and Sita. After some time, one-day Rama told Sita, “ Our step mother is treating us very badly. She does not give us proper food. Not only that she makes us do all menial jobs. So let us run away.” One day, one king came to the forest to hunt. Rama who was in the form of a deer had gone out. The king’s arrow struck the feet of Rama and he was injured. But he some how ran and went inside the home where Sita lived. One hunter who was following Rama saw it. Next day, Rama the deer wanted to go out. Sita begged him not to go out. But Rama did not listen to her. That day, in spite of best efforts, the king could not catch him but saw him entering the house. The king also entered the house. There he saw Sita who was by that time a pretty lady. He asked her, “Would you marry me/”, Sita replied, “Yes by all means but this deer also will live with me.” The king agreed to this. Thus Sita started living as a queen of a kingdom. Her magician stepmother who had a big daughter of her own by that time knew about this. She was very jealous. Queen Sita looked after her brother well and a baby son was born to her. At that time her mother entered her house using magic and changed her daughter to look like Sita. They both chased Sita. But Sita ran away and hid behind a closet, in a dark room. Her stepmother could not locate her but her daughter started acting like a queen. Her stepsister was a cruel lady and ill-treated the new baby and the deer. But Sita would daily come out from behind the closet and give grass to the deer and also milk to her baby. One day one of the maids in the palace saw this. She went and told the king. That day the king hid near the dark room and, he also saw Sita. He caught hold of Sita. Then knowing all the truth from her, Sita’s stepmother and her daughter were put in a big well and the well was closed. As soon as they did this the deer got his original form. Rama and Sita then lived happily
