IBM's Big Data Power7+ Portfolio for SMBs Email this page

Bangalore: IBM has launched its easy-to-manage storage system portfolio designed to address growing data requirements of SMBs. Small and Medium sized businesses (SMB) are accountable for 65 percent of GDP and are responsible for nearly 90 percent of the work force.
Big Data is a collection of data sets so large and complex that it becomes difficult to process using on-hand database management tools or traditional data processing applications. It is assumed that the Big Data market is also on the verge of a rapid growth and will top the $50 billion mark worldwide. However, SMB businesses have been facing data intensive business challenges and grappling with making sense of the growing volume and velocity of data from a variety of sources.

IBM has taken an initiative to help these SMB by helping them acquire technologies that will help them differentiate their business, provide them with financing options that will enable them to acquire these advanced technologies and ultimately bring efficiency to drive business growth.The new IBM Power7+ portfolio concentrating on the SMBs includes Pure Application System, Pure Data System for Operational Analytics, Flex System PureFlex System, Power 770, Power 780, Power 795 etc.

When Silicon India asked Vishy Ramaswamy, Project Executive, IBM India in a media round table, that why does SMBs require Big Data Analytics, he explained that with IBM’s Smarter Analytics, SMBs can extract insights from their enterprise data and all the big data that is continuously flowing in from a variety of new sources. The storage system will help SMBs to grow their customer base and retain the most profitable customers. Continuously improve their operational efficiency and prevent fraud and manage risk and compliance efforts along with transformation and automate financial processes.

IBM is executing its Power strategy well, and growing share at the expense of other processors like SPARC and Itanium. Power delivers transactional performance that is close to the highest-achievable point at present.
