Bangalore: Ravi Baichwal, an anchorman at ABC7 and James Whelan, Professor at the Kelley School of Business, Indian University organized a special fundraising programme recently to support the social programmes conducted by Chinmaya Organization for Rural Development (CORD) in India. The second-generation along with the community-minded Indian American young professionals lead the programme and were successful in raising an amount of $95,000.Many among these youngsters have visited India to bring in some social change in the country and to support community awareness. Nearly 500 people attended the event and there were high-powered fusion Indian performances and comedic acts to enlighten the programme. The target amount kept for the fundraising programme was $100,000 and through the sales of paintings and hand-made goods made by the villagers, $95,000 was raised. Numerous individuals and business entities also contributed to the event. |
