CHICAGO: Hari Om Mandir, a socio-religious organization in Medinah, a northside suburb of Chicago, celebrated Father’s Day with a Desi twist on Sunday, June 17. People streaming right since 11 am enjoyed beautiful bhajans recited by devotees. The practice of Father’s Day celebration was started in 1910 by Sonora Smart Dodd, born in Arkansas. Her father, the Civil War veteran William Jackson Smart, was a single parent who reared his six children in Spokane, Washington. It seeks to highlight the contribution of the father in the development of child. Celebrations at Hari Om Mandir were started by Sneh Chaudhary, Secretary of the Board, welcoming all to celebrating Father’ Day. President Rajeev Bharel narrated various activities performed by the Mandir with the cooperation of all. He also outlined upcoming programs and requested all to attend them in large numbers. Ayodhia Salwan, Chairman, Board of Trustees also welcomed all fathers and mothers and touched upon the importance of a father. He informed everyone that the Green Card petition for Priest Yogesh Pandya had been approved. Krishan Tejpal, Chairman of the Senior Citizens’ Committee, was honored along with his wife. To commemorate Father’s Day, a token gift of incense stick and bell was distributed to all devotees. Suresh Bodiwala Chairman of the Asian Media, was thanked for services to Hari Om Mandir. After Aarti and Mahaprasad, the devotees dispersed cherishing memories of Father’s Day. Hari Om conducts every Sunday a Havan followed with general congregation participation in Aarti and Bhojan Prasad. On every first Saturday of the month, there is Devi Jagran from 7-10pm. Every Monday there is Shiv Puja and every Tuesday a Hanuman Challisa Path. There are two learned priests available in temple, for Poojas, Havan, Kathas etc in the temple and at home.
