New Global Indian Foundation inaugurated its 3-day Global Indian Business Meet (GIBM) at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in Times Square, New York City, on Sept. 21. The conference is aimed at exploring emerging sectors and sunshine markets enabling businesses and organizations worldwide to work together to impact the global economy. Among other speakers was Swami Tyagananda Maharaj of the Ramakrishna Vedanta Society of Boston, who highlighted the importance that Swami Vivekananda gave to the marriage between science and technology and spirituality. He reminded the audience that it was on Vivekananda’s advice Jamshedji Tata formed the Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore. Videos on Swami Vivekananda and his contribution to India’s recognition in the western world as a land of wisdom were shown during the session. There were over 100 participants at the conference. Among the celebrities who were present was Lord Meghnad Desai of Britain. The sessions to follow include ‘Future of Business’, ‘Business map of Tomorrow’, ‘Managing businesses in times of economic slowdown’, among others. These would be followed by sessions on Sept. 22 that would include ‘Spiritual Intelligence’, ‘Challenges and opportunities in current economy and businesses of tomorrow’, ‘Opportunities and Challenges of Entrepreneurship in a globalized era’, ‘Venture Capitalists, Bankers, FIIs, Angel Investors, Investment Opportunities’, ‘Business of tomorrow – Healthcare and Tourism and Hospitality’, ‘Media, Entertainment & Public Relations’, and ‘Develop India’. There would also be a session for ‘Business in the Caribbean and African countries’. The event will also have special presentations by Dr. Anita Goel, Chairman and Scientific Director, Nanobiosym; Lord Meghnad Desai, Vijay Nambiar, acting Special Representative on Sexual Violence in Conflict to the United Nations Secretary-General; and several other eminent people. The event will also include several cultural performances including a sarod concert by Ustad Amjad Ali Khan and his two sons, Ayaan Ali Khan and Aman Ali Khan. |
