Mumbai, Oct. 24 (NNN): Country’s batting hero Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar, who has been declared fit to play in the third Test against Australia at Nagpur, starting from October 26, has asserted that Indian team was fully capable to bounce back in the series.
Set to make his comeback with his side 1-0 down, 31-year-old Tendulkar believes India have the quality to come from behind and beat Australia in their current series.

They were in a similar position in 2001 and won the series 2-1 and he told BBC Asian Network: "It will help us if we treat it the same.

"We just have to try and stick to our basics and produce good cricket," he added.

Tendulkar has recovered from tennis elbow, which has kept him out of action since the middle of August.

"He has done everything he was asked to do. There is no reason to hold him back now," physio Andrew Leipus said, adding: "He has pased the fitness test. He's playing all his shots and is not restricted in any way."

Leipus added: "He's not feeling any pain at all. He won't require any more treatment, but he'll have to take measures so it doesn't come back again."

Tendulkar has scored 9,470 runs in 114 Tests, including 33 centuries - just one short of the record held by India's batting coach Sunil Gavaskar.

However, he admitted it would be difficult to step straight back into Test cricket after a lengthy lay-off. "It's definitely going to be difficult for me because I've not played for almost nine weeks now," he said, adding: "I really wanted to play this entire series against Australia. Now that I have this opportunity it's good for me.”

He added: "It's tough to be away from the game. I've spent a lot of time in the dressing room with the other players but you really want to be out there in the middle."

Earlier declaring him fit, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) doctor Anant Joshi said on Saturday at Kolkata: "I don't think the weight of the bat really matters in this case. Sachin can use his normal bat.

Dr Joshi, who was in Kolkata in connection with an operation, said the problem of tennis elbow has nothing to do with the weight a person carries as even housewives can get it without lifting heavy things.

He said he had examined Tendulkar's affected elbow two days ago and was fully satisfied with his recovery.

"Two days ago his condition was very good following which we decided that the load on his hand could be progressively increased and a final decision about his availability for the third Test was taken by team physio Andrew Leipus this morning," Dr Joshi said.

After a practice session yesterday morning in Mumbai, Leipus announced that Tendulkar will play in the third Test in Nagpur beginning on Tuesday.

Asked whether there was any risk of recurrence of the problem, Joshi said extra precaution had been taken in this case to ensure it did not recur. "We played very safe as even before Chennai Test he was in a position to play but we did not allow him to take the risk and waited for some more time for complete recovery. Now we are sure that the problem is over," he said.

When asked why it took so long for the injury to heal, he said the problem of tennis elbow was such. "In some people it gets better in a week to ten days, in some cases it take months and in some cases it never gets better," Joshi said.

The master batsman has missed country’s two Tests against visiting Australia played so far.

India is down 1-0 in the 4-match series having lost the Bangalore Test.

The Test at Chennai was drawn as the crucial fifth day’s play was washed out due to rain.

His return presents a selection poser for India.

Yuvraj Singh opened the batting in Chennai to make room for Mohammad Kaif in the middle order and the latter responded with 64 not out in India's first innings.

One of them would appear the most likely to make way, with wicket-keeper Parthiv Patel an option to go in first if Yuvraj is omitted.

However, pressure is also increasing on VVS Laxman, who has scored just 38 runs at an average of 12.66 so far in the series.
