Islamabad, Nov. 27 (NNN) : Rejecting India’s assertion to the contrary, Pakistan has said that the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) is the real representative of Kashmiri people.
Saying that the contention of New Delhi is tantamount to sheer negation of facts, Foreign Office Spokesman Masood Khan said India is not ready to accept the ground realities in Kashmir.

He was commenting on Indian External Affairs Minister Natwar Singh’s statement that AHPC could not be termed as true representative body of Kashmiris.

Khan said that contrary to Singh’s statement, the Hurriyat leaders are the real representatives of Kashmiri people and India would have to accede to this obvious fact.

He said the APHC leaders have asked the Indian authorities to allow them to visit Pakistan to hold talks with Kashmiri leaders on this side of Line of Control as well as the Pakistani leadership. However, he added so far this demand has not been accepted.

Talking to a private TV channel, the APHC (Ansari Group) Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq termed the statement by Singh as an irresponsible act of a senior leader. He said the APHC has never claimed to be the only representative body of Kashmiris and what we have said time and again is that majority of Kashmiri people have faith in Hurriyat Conference.

He said such a meaningless statement by a senior Indian leader at this crucial juncture when Pakistan and India are engaged in talks could have negative impact on the process of composite dialogue.

He said perhaps the Indian authorities are not happy at the stance of Hurriyat that like Kashmiris Pakistan is the major party to Kashmir issue and any just settlement to the dispute could not be achieved by the exclusion of Kashmiri people or Islamabad from the peace talks. He also rejected the Indian Foreign Minister’s contention that APHC is not willing to talk to Indian government.
