New Delhi, Dec. 15 (NNN): Sheila Dikshit-headed seven-member Council of Ministers was sworn in on Monday afternoon to rule Delhi for the second five-year term. Earlier on Friday night Dikshit met Lt Governor Kapoor and handed over the list of her party MLAs to enable him initiate the process of government with the Centre. A surprise omission in her new Cabinet is young Ajay Maken, who was widely acknowledged for his "performance" in the Power and Transport ministries during difficult times. Maken is tipped to become the Speaker of New Assembly. The Congress government, which first wrested power in Delhi in 1998 ousting the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), romped back in the December 1 Assembly polls with a two-thirds majority for the second time. Under Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit Congress bagged 47 of the 70 seats at stake, five less than the previous score. Delhi was the only state where Congress managed to hold on to keep power. It lost in polls in Chattisgarh, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, three other states that had assembly elections along with Delhi. |
