| What can I say on this auspicious night? | | When set upon a throne of damsels gay, | | An emerald set on diamonds fair and bright, Your smiling eyes, alas, on me should lay. No sorrows can taint your spirit divine: Nor curse this night can flaw your form agile, Yet, how I wish I knew your thoughts in mind. What loves anew now lurk behind that beguiling smile? It’s time that you bid farewell to wanton sprees. What victories gained in short-lived dreams in life? Only kingly fools pace the streets, carefree Of dawn’s awakening life with duties so rife. I shall not speak more tonight. Your life, not mine. Yet my blessings on you forever shine.
