Today is the 15th birthday of Jake Potter. He isn't enjoying his birthday because he isn't doing well at school. This is because bullies at school, who are making his life hell, are harassing him. He also yearns for the love of the popular and pretty schoolgirl - Stacey. His mum, Sylvia, always seems to be working, busy or never has time to talk to him. They are both very distant from each other.

Jake wants a computer for his birthday, but his mum gets him a TV. His mum also gives him a letter, from his late Grandma, stating that on turning 16, £5,000 will be available to him for his education. But his mum decides that she'll keep the money for herself.

Later on in the day, Jake's brother - Rob, gives him a present called the "Magic" pen. Rob assures Jake that he'll have hours of fun with this present. So, with the magic pen, he decides to write a love letter to Stacey and plans to give it to her.

On going to meet Stacey, Jake see's her with a group of friends and concludes that he'll give her the letter later when she is alone; so that he'll save embarrassment.

But, Jake encounters the Bully, and he takes the envelope off Jake and decides to give it to Stacey- Knowing that Stacey and the group of girls would laugh at Jake. Distraught by this incident, Jake runs home and decides that the only way out for him now is suicide.

So Jake writes a farewell letter and addresses it to the only person he cares about - his brother Rob. In the letter it states that the £5,000 inheritance that he'll receive must be given to his brother and not his mum, Sylvia.

After writing the letter, he finds some rope in the garage and hangs himself in his bedroom.

5 minutes later, his mum answers the door to Stacey, who gives her a blank envelope and inside it a blank piece of paper. Stacey says that the bully gave it to her, from Jake. Confused why Jake would do this, his mum decides to go up to Jakes room and enquire.

But on entering the room, Sylvia finds the hanged, dead body of Jake. On the desk, she finds a blank envelope. Inside it - a blank piece of paper. Next to the envelope, the "Magic" pen.
