The launch of "Virumbugiren", a new film starring Prashanth was announced at a glittering function in Hotel Chola Sheraton, Chennai on January 19th, 2000.
The film is written and directed by Mr. Susi Ganesan who makes his debut with this film. Mr. Ganesan, an automobile engineering graduate, who earlier worked with Mr. Mani Ratnam as an Assistant Director in "Bombay" and "Iruvar," and as an Associate Director in "Dil Se / Uyire."
The film has cinematography by K.V. Anand, music by Deva, lyrics by Vairamuthu, art by Thota Tharani, editing by Suresh Urs and special effects by Venki.
"Virumbugiren" is produced by Vandana Bhatt and Mary Francis under the banner of V.M. Creations.
Several leading luminaries of the Tamil film world spoke at the function. They included Shri. Kamal Hasan, Mr. Mani Rathnam, KRG, AVM Saravanan, Abhirami Ramanathan, K.S. Ravikumar, Deva, Vairamuthu, Prashanth, Parthiban, Prakash Raj, Prabhu Deva, Vineeth, Pandiarajan, Ms Suhasini and Ms Ambika.
The proceedings were ably compered by Ms Uma Padmanabhan of Sun TV fame.
Mr. Mani Rathnam said that, in addition to their best wishes, they also had a lot of expectations of the new director.
Mr. Kamal Hasan said that as a fellow debutante director, he wished Mr. Ganesan all the best. He stressed the need for the director to make a good film and within the scheduled time frame.
The director, Mr. Susi Ganesan, said "My film should speak highly about me, rather than I speaking highly of the film."
