The story starts in 1946 and ends in 1999.It is about ahimsa and violence.Kamal dons the role of a vaishnavite.There are many firsts in this movie.This is Hema Malini's first full length Tamil film.Kamal has written a song in this movie which is sung by Kavitha Krishnamurhti and Hariharan.There is also a marathi folk song sung by Asha Bhonsle.L.Subramanian is scoring music for a tamil movie for the first time.
