The end credit is: "the film's been dedicated to all the mother-in-laws who would treat their daughter-in-laws as daughters". Actually that should read, "thanks to those who put-up with this sentimental masala for 2-1/2 hours". This is a remake of a Telugu hit but seems like a remake of many films like Deewana, Pathini, etc. Ajith says he would marry the girl he likes at first sight. In a
shopping mall he gets a glimpse of Simran and promptly falls in love (don't blame him).
Soon he goes on a mission in search of her only to find her in a colony surrounded by
comedians (Goundamani, Senthil, VenniraAdai Moorthi, Thaamu, Kovai Sarala) and a lonely
sad, pathetic looking Sujatha as her mother. Soon we think Sujatha must be hiding a sad
but dramatic flashback (as she often has in her movies) which is usually left for the
climax. Truthful to the expectations, she happens to be Sim's mother-in-law. Sujatha's son
(Prithviraj a.k.a. Babloo) is killed (so we think) by his wife (Sims) when he encourages
his friends to sexually abuse her. Believing the bad time is behind them, Sujatha &
Simran start a new life in a new town as mother and daughter team. Both Ajith and Sims
fall in love with the help of the comedians gang and that leads to the marriage. Well...
almost. Prithvi returns for their betrothal to reclaim his possession. What can a good What keeps the film going is the comedy. Senthil as a hi-tech laundryman with his mobile phone and ac 'thalluvandi' gets 'special' attention from Kovai Sarala, wife of Goundamani. The encounter between the threesome is funny as ever. Added spice is the would-be director film crazy Thamu and the ex-military (cook!) Moorthy. They fill more scenes than the hero and heroine put together. Ajith has very little to do in this female oriented movie. A very slimmed down Simran shows she can act too. She is almost getting the correct lip-sync for Tamil dialogues. Sujatha is as usual, ready to break into tears at anytime. Prithviraj as the sadist does a good job, though it looks outrageous. There are so many unanswered questions in the film like the reason for Simran to get married to Prithviraj when she has no relatives about. Surely not a love marriage. When a hit film is remade, no questions to be asked. Just trust those who made it hit. Watch it if u are either an Ajith or a Sims fan. Aval Varuvaala...? Santhekam thaan!!
