Avvai Shanmugi starring KamalHassan, Meena, Gemini Ganeshan, Nagesh, Delhi Ganesh , Nazzar and guest appearance Hira is an excellent family entertainer. If you liked Michael Madana Kama Rajan, you will surely enjoy this one.

The story begins with a divorce scene at the court between Janaki (Meena) and Pandiyan (Kamalhassan). Pandiyan is a happy-go-lucky assistant dance master who is from a middle class background and Janaki the only daughter of a rich business man Vishwanatha Iyer (Gemini Ganeshan). They fall in love and get married in-spite of oppositions from the rich father. Gemini's role though a villain's role is quite mild and almost funny! Delhi Ganesh who is a distant relative stays and works in Vishwanatha Iyer's house , adds fuel to fire when ever he can only to worsen the situation between Janaki and Pandiyan . Eventually, Janaki, unable to adjust to the Pandiyan's meager income and lack of comfort and with all the encouragement from her father decides to divorce Pandiyan.

(still from movie - The Hindu)

The real fun begins when Meena goes back to her father's home after the divorce and advertises for a nanny to look after their daughter. Kamal who misses his young daughter very much, after the court gives custody to meena happens to see this ad and with the help of Nagesh who is a make-up man in show business transforms Kamal into a nine-yard-wearing-typical-brahmin lady. Kamal is hilarious and fantastic in this role. He then manages to get the job and tries to win his wife and father-in -law by making them see the folly of their mistakes. Whether he succeeds or not is for you to find out on screen.

The plot is very similar to Mrs DoubtFire "no doubt" , but you wont be disappointed even if you have seen the English movie or not ..Though the music was quite ordinary , The movie on the whole is very light hearted and fun to watch.
